According to the DEA , drugs are divided into separate schedules depending on their effects. Schedule one groups are drugs that have no prescription use and are most often abused. These drugs are also the most dangerous of them all. Drugs that fall under this group are Heroine, LSD, Marijuana, and Peyote. Schedule two drugs are drugs that are abused but not quite as often as schedule one drugs. Some examples of schedule one drugs are Cocaine, Methamphetamine, Methadone, Hydromorphone, Oxycodone, Fentanyl, Adderall and Ritalin. Schedules three for and five are all moderate to low levels of abuse drugs.

Consequences for schedule one and two drugs go as follow: Less than one gram is a state jail felony, and has a minimum punishment of 180 days and a maximum punishment of 2 years in a state facility, along with a fine up to $10,000. One to three grams of a schedule one or two drug is a 3rd degree felony and has a minimum punishment of two years and a maximum punishment of 1o years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and a fine up to $10,000. Four to 200 grams of a schedule one or two drugs is a 2nd degree felony and has a minimum punishment of two years and a maximum punishment of 20 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, along with a fine up to $10,000. A person caught with 200 or more grams of a scheduled one or two drugs will be charged with a 1st degree felony an will suffer a minimum punishment of five years and a maximum of 99 years or life in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. An individual will also pay a fine up to $10,000.

As statistics reflect, Texas has seen a drastic increase in methamphetamine (crystal meth) addictions and has also become one of the leading states for transshipments being smuggled from Mexico. Methamphetamine is a very unforgiving drug with devastating consequences and has reached all of levels society.
