A judge has ruled against a New Jersey teenager who sued her parents in hopes they would pay her college tuition and pay for her living expenses.

Rachel Canning claims that her parents kicked her out of their home last October. Her dad says that is not true. He claims that she left because she didn’t like the rules about doing chores and keeping to a curfew. She also didn’t want to break up with a boy who her parents did not approve of.

The 18-year-old honor student and cheerleader at Morris Catholic High School moved in with her best friend. Her BFF’s dad then helped her file a lawsuit against her parents.

The trio came face to face for the first time in a New Jersey courtroom Tuesday morning and it didn’t go exactly the way Canning was hoping. The judge ruled against the girl.

Another hearing will take place in April on other issues in the lawsuit.

According to CNN , Rachel is claiming that her mom called her “fat” and “porky” and her father threatened to beat her.

Canning’s parents are denying the abuse claims and an investigation by New Jersey’s Division of Child Protection and Permanency says that they determined the allegations were unfounded.

Neither the parents or Rachel testified at the hearing. CNN reports that Sean Canning was seen talking to his daughter and Rachel’s mom was seen crying.
