A few weeks ago, a man was arrested for public intoxication and simple assault at the DFW airport.

Twenty-seven-year-old, McCleish Christmas Benham had verbally assaulted a female American Airlines gate agent. Benham was then asked by a man to calm down and was also alerted that the police were on their way. Benham reacted by calling the man some derogatory names and punched the man on his right eye. Benham then began to threaten another bystander and kicked him in the groin and hit him on the top of his head.

Five males then tackled Benham to the floor. Benham claimed to have had “100 drinks.” Police claimed there were clear signs of intoxication such as slurred speech and glossy bloodshot eyes. The police struggled with his arrest and he was taken to the airport jail where he would face a possible Class C misdemeanor.

It is important that you manage your alcohol especially when out in public. Public intoxication is when a person appears to be intoxicated in a public place to the point that they are a danger to themselves or other people. Public Intoxication is a misdemeanor with a fine not to exceed more than $500.
