Attention! The City of Denton has now officially passed an ordinance that officially took place this past Monday, February 16, 2015. The City of Denton has made it illegal to have your phone in your hand while driving throughout the city. This includes texting, GPS, writing emails, checking emails, looking at photos, taking a Snapchat picture/ video, using Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram or even just playing your favorite game.

Officials say it is okay to be talking on the phone through Bluetooth and using GPS; however, the phone needs to be mounted onto the dash or window. Your phone may not be in your hand! The only place in which this ordinance does not cover is Interstate 35. Some may say that the reason is that they don't want to penalize out of town guests whom are not familiar with the law. But, if that were the case then the city could have put signs warning of the new laws. The real reason for the ordinance not being allowed to be placed on Interstate 35 is because the Interstate is a Federal Interstate, and the State of Texas has the soul ability to regulate Interstate Highway laws.

Even though you can't get a ticket on the highway, it is still a good idea to stay off your phone. Your vehicle is a dangerous weapon and texting can cost you a life. If found guilty of using your phone in the City of Denton, one could face a Class C misdemeanor and a fine up to $200.
