Aiding Suicide

Chapter 22 of the Texas Penal Code places restrictions and guidelines on the use of force by an individual acting outside of official State capacity.

“Aiding Suicide”, as per § 22.08 of the Texas Penal Code, occurs when a person, with intent to promote or assist the commission of suicide by another, aids or attempts to aid the other to commit or attempt to commit suicide.

An offense under this section is a Class C misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to $500, unless the actor's conduct causes suicide or attempted suicide that results in serious bodily injury, in which event the offense is a state jail felony, punishable by a term of confinement in a state jail ranging from 180 days to 2 years, as well as a fine of up to $10,000.
